TMA Announces 2023 Global President and Board

The Turnaround Management Association is proud to announce James E. “Jim” Van Horn, Barnes & Thornburg LLP, as 2023 TMA Global President. His term begins on January 1, 2023. Current TMA President Jane W. Mitnick, SM Financial Services Corporation, will transition to TMA Chair in 2023, and Matthew S. English, CTP, Arch + Beam, will transition to Immediate Past Chair.

Jim Van Horn is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and focuses his practice on restructuring and insolvency law. A Chambers USA rated attorney for the past eight consecutive years (2015-2022), Jim has deep experience working directly with senior management, investors, creditors and other stakeholders in matters ranging from out-of-court workouts and prepackaged and prearranged Chapter 11 reorganizations to cram down plans of reorganization and sales of substantially all assets. He is experienced in representing corporate debtors, secured creditors, asset purchasers, official committees of unsecured creditors, liquidating trustees, receivers, investors, and other stakeholders in bankruptcy courts and other courts throughout the United States.

As President, I look forward to working closely with our chapters in the U.S. and internationally to enhance vibrant programming, expand membership growth, and support our highly successful Network of Women, DE&I and NextGen initiatives. I will also focus on creating more value for our members and the industry by leveraging the influence of TMA to drive restructuring and distressed transaction business to our members.”

Jim’s TMA involvement includes leadership roles at the local, regional, and global levels of the organization. Jim has served in TMA Global and chapter leadership positions for 20 years, including serving on the Executive Board for six years as VP-Conferences, VP-Education, Chapter Resource & Response Committee Chair, and numerous leadership and committee roles, in addition to serving four years in total as President of two different chapters (Chesapeake and Pittsburgh).
