Just this month, TMA Alabama was the target of a money wiring scam. The scammer, impersonating our President, sent a request for an updated financial report and a wire transfer to our Treasurer.
The attempt failed, but the scammer's knowledge of our officers and their relationship made for an attempt that was a bit more convincing than the James Veitch-type scams that prey on the vulnerable and gullible.
Why are these criminals so hard to catch?
Do they ever get caught? If so, why don't we hear more about it?
Is there anything we, as targets of these scams, can do to help catch the perpetrators?
At this month's luncheon, phishing expert Heather McCalley will answer these questions and share what you can do to help catch the bad guys when they target you.

Heather McCalley is Sr. Threat Intelligence Manager for PhishMe, Inc., and specializes in anti-phishing. A native of Birmingham, Heather holds an M.S. from UAB in Computer Science and an A.B. from Duke University in Economics. She is an active board member for the Birmingham chapter of InfraGard, where she has also served as President. She enjoys sharing her knowledge about email security and her experiences fighting cybercrime.
