Alex Boerema was nominated by several of his peers for this award and for good reason. As one colleague stated, “Alex has demonstrated active involvement in the TMA for the past several years, taking on leadership roles and attending numerous events. Even more importantly, he has pulled newcomers under his wings building relationships and friendships between the NextGen members of the TMA. It is this sort of undertaking, while not readily apparent in our numbers and statistics that builds and solidifies our NextGen membership ranks.”
Alex began his leadership role in 2014 when he was elected as co-chair of the NextGen Committee and assisted in planning successful networking luncheons, happy hours, and an inaugural “marquee” NextGen event. He also constructed the framework of a NextGen mentorship program that was presented to the Board of Directors for the following year.
From 2014 to 2016 he has served as co-chair of the Finance Committee and also served on the Nominating Committee in 2015. In addition to his local chapter involvement, Alex is actively engaged at the Global level serving as a member of the TMA Global NextGen Committee and co-chair of the NextGen Leadership Conference recently held in Chicago. As a member of that committee, Alex lead efforts to obtain industry leaders and judges to speak as panelists and developed parameters of panel topics and facilitated committee members throughout the planning process.
As another colleague noted, “Alex is a fast-rising member of the Chapter that has served across several committees in a short period of time while providing impactful contributions.” He led the initiative of advancing the annual attendance study into an advanced metric study of the historical committee events held by the Chapter from 2014 to 2016. And, most recently, he has been working to tie into his attendance analysis the profitability per event which should prove to be invaluable information for future planning and budgeting.
Alex Boerema is most deserving of the 2016 Emerging Leader Award. The chapter leadership and all its members appreciate his contributions and look forward to his future growth professionally and as a volunteer of TMA Global and the Chicago/Midwest Chapter.
