Hello Spring! As we welcome the new season, things at NJTMA are springing into action with many networking and educational events already scheduled, in addition to those being planned for later in the year. With 191 members, we are firmly entrenched in the TMA Global model as a mid-size chapter. We are proud to have a board and members attending and representing our chapter at The Annual, NOW, NextGen, DIC (Distressed Investing Conference) and International Global Conferences. Attendees return home from the conferences with tools and models which help make our chapter better. One of these models is TMA Global's core values or "What TMA Stands For," which reflect what is truly important to TMA. These core values include being chapter-centric, driving business, focusing on members, being industry experts, being knowledgeable, professional and inclusive.
NJTMA mirrors TMA Global with the importance of those core values, but what our members are seeking most is networking to build relationships and drive business. NJTMA strives to help our members do this by providing many networking and educational opportunities throughout the year. Hal Lancaster, author of Promoting Yourself: 52 Lessons for Getting to the Top . . . and Staying There and Wall Street Journal columnist, says this about networking: "the cultivation of productive relationships for employment or business, networking remains the No. 1 cause of job attainment."  You, our membership, know this to be true.
Thank you for your commitment to NJTMA. As a small token of our appreciation, NJTMA is hosting our first Spring Social event at Ninety Acres at Natirar on Monday, May 1 st . This special signature event is free for all New Jersey members in good standing. I look forward to seeing you there.

Respectfully submitted,
Janey Mitnick
President NJTMA

Ms. Kasturi is passionate about advancing gender equality through courageous conversation around issues of unconscious bias, high impact communication, confidence, and power. Seton Hall Success

On February 28th, NJTMA hosted a networking event at the Seton Hall University vs. Georgetown University basketball game at the Prudential Center in Newark. We sold out our private suite with over 60 attendees.

During a game timeout, we presented the 2017 NJTMA & George Mehm Scholarship to Shaaliyah Lyons, a senior at Seton Hall University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management, a minor in Africana Studies, and a certificate in Entrepreneurial Studies. The presentation was shown live on the scoreboard.

Shaaliyah's impressive accomplishments and awards include serving as the manager of the Seton Hall University Women's basketball team, founding the non-profit organization called Together We Conquer Life Skills Basketball Camp, and being named the 2016 Seton Hall University Woman of the Year. Congratulations to Shaaliyah, a hardworking young woman!

Requirements for the scholarship included an essay on "How have the challenges you have faced in life spurred your interest to become a business professional?" George J, Mehm, NJTMA member and Seton Hall alum, co-sponsored the scholarship along with NJTMA.
Our efforts really do make a difference in young lives. Seton Hall was very appreciative of our scholarship donation and sent a letter which read in part:

"Thank you for playing an important role in strengthening the foundation of our student scholar's academic, social and spiritual grounding, shaping the future by requiring us to think differently, indeed boldly."

In addition to the scholarship presentation, attendees enjoyed great food and conversations and an exciting game. It was a nail-biting Seton Hall win, 62-59, in a come from behind victory in the final minute of the game.

My thanks to all who helped make this a success, including NJTMA President Jane Mitnick, member George J. Mehm, the NJTMA Board of Directors, NJTMA Chapter Administrator Betty Mantz and Susan Scherreik, Professor at Seton Hall University.
